Evaluation Task 5. How did you attract/ adress you audience?

In order to create a connection with our target audience we used a variety of short changes in shots at the beginning of the thriller. We used a variety of different shots of the same scene to add meaning and depth. We wanted our thriller to be tense to and we achieved this by using lots of shorts shots at the beginning and having a long black screen of just audio. Using only audio for a scene draws the audience in closing and makes them pay more attention to the sound to figure out what is going on. By displaying a blank screen and creating car noises and driving away we can creates the audience to believe that there is a vehicle involved in the thriller and the body on the stretcher is being driven away. The last couple of shots satisfy the audience in two ways. First of all it satisfies the audience that what they had pictured in their heads from the audio was in fact what was really happening. Secondly the whole of the thriller before the last couple of shot was building up the tension slowly including the shot of adam getting out the car. When the audience adam open the van doors and gets shot by the man who was on the stretcher to it releases all the tension from that one shot and shock and surprises the audience a the same time.

The beginning first shots of our thriller set the mood as being dark and mysterious. The thriller starts off with a black screen and a the opening sequences titles staring to fade in and out. The music then slowly fades in creating the dark and mysterious atmosphere. The reason why we have so many shots of the trolley is because we want the audience to slowly figure out and conclude what is going on, this adds to the tension of the thriller as well.

We have an over shoulder shot of matt pushing the trolley. In this shot you can see slightly of what is on top of the stretcher. You can see out of focused at the end of the trolley which indicates to the audience that there is a body on the stretcher. The shot also shows the audience the setting and they can see that it is down a corridor. This shot makes the audience want to know were the trolly is going and what purpose.

The tilting down shot from adam to Mauricio on the stretcher is our first real glimpse of what is really on the trailer. This shot gives the audience it's first real hint of what is really on the stretcher. The shot is sustained on the stretcher only for a glimpse, this attracts the audience want to watch more to satisfy their belief. The camera also stops on the head which symbolises importance to the audience and makes them think more about whats underneath. In this shot the audience can can the matt is wearing blue scrubs which makes them think

This shot is shot through the door at the end of the corridor of matt pushing the trolley towards the camera. The shot is out of focus as we wanted to keep the mysterious shots to add to the tension. This creates the audience to sustain their concentration in the shot as it comes into focus so they have a focused perspective of the shot. You also see a full head on view of matt pushing the trolley revealing a lot to the audience.

The next shot is of matt pushing the trolley through the door which then fades to black. This shot attracts the audiences attention as they now have a much larger view of what is going on which is a difference from the extreme close-ups. This shot creates the audience to want to know where the trolley is going after the door and as the shot fades to black what is after the pause. The shot subtly fades out creating a more mysterious atmosphere for the audience as the music fades out.

The next shot is a very quick shot of the doors being shut. In this shot we have heightened the sound so that it alerts and awakens the audience from the subtle being and from the fading to black as the music fades out. The audience are now more alert and surprised. This shot hints to the audience that the stretcher has been put into the back of the van without having to show the stretcher being put into the back of the van.

We then only hear the audio for the net shots which makes the audience pay much more close attention to the sound. Amongst the car noises you hear a heightened bagging sound followed by time more, the sound is muffled to so the audience believe that it is coming from the inside of the van

after the audio we then have a shot of Adam the driver getting out the car, the shot opens with the bury, rainy window of the van and adam in the drivers seat. We cannot see adam only a few faint colours and a outline. This relates make to the beginning of the thriller as we are slowly show the identity of matt to keep it mysterious. The audio also ties in in this shot.

The next shot is of adam walking tow towards the camera with a concerned look on his face. We chose to shot this from the front so that we could see his facial expression. The facial expression creates the audience to believe that there is something unknown that has happened.

We are then in the perspective from inside the van. We shot this shot so that the audience could see adams facial expressions and depict the mood of the situation. The audience then see a gun come from inside the van pointing at adam and in a split second it flicks to the next shot to where we have a front view of Mauricio. The audience see a man in a white apron and hospital patient attire and conclude that this was the body on the stretcher.

The end shock the audience the whole of the thriller is a calm and quite build up of tension and then a sudden peak to release it. the gun shot Satisfies the audience need for a break in the tension although the gun shots come as a great surprise

Evaluation task 4: Who would be the audiecne for you media Product?

Our Thriller is an action film about a tense, hostile murderous escape. This can attract a wide ranging audience of different social groups but dominantly male. It has a long suspense to it has suspending scene that build up tension and release them suddenly at there peak and shocks the audience.

We have to ask the question "who might be interested in watching our film?"

Well the majority of the audience will be male because that is typical that males can cope with and are interested in more sudden, adrenaline pumping attacking rather than slow mystery murder investigations. The characters in our thriller are all male, so it is more to relate to as a male viewer than a female one. However some of our audience could be into a quick action thrilled rush.
Our audience can be split up into different tribes In my opinion our views fall into the category of mainstream and alternate

The Mainstreams
Most of young people has eventually come under this category and they grow up and experiment with different styles. The majority of this tribe would be working class, verging on middle. Their choice in music is accessible and popular, they favour the artist or band that has the highest ratings or viewings in the chart or on youtube. There dress scene is new and casual and follow the popular crowd with big brands such as Addidas or Primark. They are heavy Tv watchers and Heavy cinema viewers. Th e typical environment and local of the Mainstream genre is in a city or large town. They are heavy social network users such as Facebook and Internet users. However they are not concerned with up to date issues involving political and foreign issues. They tend to Drink to get drunk as most youths experience every now and then. they can often commit acts of aggression and violence. they are always looking for the next big hit, weather that be drugs, sport of illegal acts. They do not tend to branch out to other tribes.

The Alternative
There is a lot to this tribe. The majority of them being working to middle class. Much more open minded about fashion Film and music than the Mainstream tribe. This tribes is full of young teens Looking for something a bit different and quirky but still falling under slight Mainstream-ism. This tribe is much more aware on whats going on in the world. This tribe is slightly more into there image, weather that be Gothic, rocker, skater, they like to dress according to different social groups.

Evaluation task 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why

What Kind of Media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Account for your choice of institutional content and its implications for the product and exhibition of your film product.

I would have to say that our thriller falls somewhere between the categories of high concept and low concept. I have been researching films similar to our thriller and see what distribution and producing companies are behind them. I started by researching prison escapes and tried to find some unique escape that are roughly similar to our idea. I only researched British films that are roughly similar to  medium concept level like ours. I found the British prison break film the escapist Director by Rupert Wyatt, Distributed by Vertigo.

The main character Frank Perry comes up with an inventive escape plan, and recruits a dysfunctional band of escapists  misfits with unique skills required for their daring plan and united by desire to escape their hell hole of an existence. Stars Brian Cox, a well known actor, drawing the publics attention and Brain Cox fans
The film was released on the 20th of June 2008
Directed by Rupert Wyatt.

I have also found the film Bronson directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, Director of Drive and Pusher.

The film is about a young boy who wanted to make a name of him self and attempted to rob a post office. It caused him a seven year sentence in jail. His sentence was raised to 34 years and 30 in solitary confinement after all the cries he committed inside the jails. He created an alter ego for himself “Charles Bronson”. Bronson is know as the most violent prisoner in Britain.

The production company behind the production is Vertigo films,
Bronson is a british film filmed in the UK
The Film was released in 2009, 15th march, (UK) It was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, (Drive, Pusher). Bronson Played by Tom Hardy, drawing in Hardy fans and fans of other films the Hardy is in such as the Dark Knight Rises. The Film boosted Hardy's carer as it got him further roles such as bane in the dark night. Hardy had to become much bigger for the role of Bronson so his was put on a very strict schedule. Christopher Nolen saw Hardy and chose him for the role.
The film Made £258,360 on its opening weekend in the UK alone.
both these films are british prison crime films that have both been a part of vertigo distribution or production,

Vertigo films

Vertigo Films is a UK Media company founded in 2002 to create and distribute commercially driven independent cinema.
Vertigo films main priority is to distribution lower concept films with much lower budgets that higher concept films. They were the first to produce and release a 3D production into cinemas, Street dance 3D.
Vertigo Films produce and distribute very typical english films such as football factory or Pusher, England London.
Vertigo films would be a great distributor for our film as it distributes the type genre that we are aiming at and its distributes lower concept films, such as ours. it also distributes over the globe, for example "Bronson" made $104,979 grossing on the 9th october 2009 in North America.

Evaluation Task 2: How does you product represent perticular social groups?

Our Thriller does represent different social groups. In our thriller we have three characters. Matt, mental ward worker, Adam, the van driver, and Mauricio, the escape patient. Matt and Adam represent the working class from there menial jobs. For example Adam has the appearance of someone from working class. He is dressed with a shirt, tie and a coat. The shirt and tie are part of his uniform for the Van service he works for. The Hat is of his own choice which symbolises would attire he would wear off duty as it look reasonably cheap and has a nike logo. The small glimpses of the van we see in our thriller shows that he drives a very straight forwards simple white van.

Matt also has the appearance of someone who is very stereotypical of the working class. We can see that he works in a mental ward and he is one the duty of pushing out a dead body. His tattoo sleeve on his left arm and his unshaven scruffy look also represents the working class look.

Mauricio is tall big dark male. His appearance is quite intimidating to the audience in our thriller. It is quite hard to talk about his class as we cannot depict a lot about him from the small glimpse we see of him. His appearance and act however does tell us a lot about his state. He is clearly mentally unwell, menacing and very aggressive.

Our thriller is ver male dominant as all our characters are men. Our thriller expresses a lot of violence and general male jobs. For example is would be unfitting to have a woman pushing the trolley dow the hall, because our in society maintenance handymen work is generally much better fitted to a man rather than woman because men are more physically build to these jobs than woman. It goes against, subverting the stereotypical role in society for a woman if a woman wore to carry out these jobs.

Thrillers 2013

This is the final product of our Thriller.

Final stages

Everything was coming into place. We decided that the scene of Adam driving is too jumbled up and uneven, as we couldn’t get any outside shots of the van because there were signs all over it.  Instead of the scene we are going to blacken the screen and just have the audio. Of the doors closing engine staring up and driving. We are going to have the banging noise back in the back of the van. The screen will come back on when you hear Adam pulling over and jumping out of the van. The screen will then go black again as we have the shot of Adam opening the van door and Mauricio pointing the gun at him. The blackening of the screen and the sound running creates a lot more tension and make the audience focus a lot more on the sound to really hear what’s going on.  For example in the film Signs, 2002, staring Mel Gibson, they have a scene in the basement were the lights go out and its pitch black for about a minute while you hear people screaming and running around. Its quite a big risk doing this because we do have some very nice footage of Adam in the car but I think it will create more tension and that is our main aim. The gun sounds are in place but now we need to do the gun flashes and add some effects to the title at the end. We have now come up with a full name for our thriller. It is called Senseless
