The Roots

In the Music

 The Roots are a American old school hip hop band, formed in 1987. They specialise in a lot of different genres including jazz, jazz rap and neo soul as well as hip hop. They are known for the jazzy approach to their music recording with live instruments and performing with them live as well.

The band in a dark alley way with a very basic kit setup. Their faces lit up from the light of street lamps. The band looking very grungy and shady wearing rugged clothing like stereo-typical rappers.

The video will consist of lots of cutting shots that move from a story and the band. the setting of the story will be a dark sketchy looking alley way. A couple walk  down the alley to get their car from the car park and the music starks to kick in. a shadow appears in the alley  and nudges the couple as they walk past. this creates a dark atmosphere which relates to the song

The couple they proceed and they enter the car park. as the couple approach their car they are approach by about 5 boys who mug and beat down the couple. the police show up and pull into the car park. there is then a huge police chase and the boy flee.

As the atmosphere of the video is quite dark I was think about filming black and white to create that night time city filming. I was really influenced by the film Sin City. I really like the deep contrast between the red and the black and white as the only colour in Sin City is red. I’m thinking about Appling this effect to the video

 

The black and white effect is very common amongst hiphop videos

 

I really like the red dress in this picture from sin city it could be and idea for the couple, the man with a red tie and the woman with a red dress. I find this effect very aesthetically pleasing
