Lord Of War. Life Of A Bullet intro.
This opening title sequence is one of my favourite opening scenes to a film. This is a really entertaining sequence that follows the life of a bullet from factory into war. I find the sequence very interesting and I really enjoy the special effects used.
The music used in the sequence,"For What It's Worth", Buffalo Springfield, fits the sequence very well. It’s a relaxing piece of music and at the end of the sequence when the bullet is fired the music suddenly stops in a harsh way and the scene becomes much tenser. The final scene comes as a great shock to the audience as suddenly the mood of the sequence changes.

Shooting The Prelim
In our class we were split up into three groups. In my group there were five of us and we had to come up with a scene and a setting for a prelim script that adam had set us. We decided to do a western scene so on Thursday the 20th of september, our shooting day, Adam brought in some props for us to use to set the scene of a western setting. The props were 2 cowboy hats, a whiskey bottle and 2 shot glasses.
We chose to use cowboy hats as they are a very identifiable signifier from a very well know genre. We told to work up in the editing swept, wehe we set up our props.
Luca- Cowboy1
Bella- Cowboy2
Elisia- Continuity girl
Liv-Director
Ivo- Camera man
We shot a few practice shots without recording just to get a glimpse of what the scene would look like. this is the script to the left. we had to act this out and film it. our croup consisted of 2 actors, a camera man (me), a continuity girl and a director.
The shot in the script was a wide shot. the wide is a great scene for setting the scene. it is also great for cutting back to throughout out the the prelim.
we shot they whole scene in the wide shot to start with so that we could cut back to it. We then moved the camera over the Cowboy2's shoulder as in the the script. We were aware of the 180° Rule, shoulder to shoulder in abiding the 180° Rule.
The script was great for a practice session for shooting. we just had to film the scenes. We didn't have to worry about script at all.

Beatrix Buried, the use of sound
At the start of the scene you hear a glimpse of Spanish guitar, within two seconds the music suddenly becomes much heavier as a man shuts the lid of the coffin she is in.
Just as the music begins to fade out, suddenly a strong sound of a nail smashing through the wood, nailing down the coffin lid. The sudden alerting sound keeps tension
in the scene and shocks the audience. (not finished)
Camera Lesson Two.
Camera Lesson Two
In our second camera lesson we got to grips with all the equipment. We learnt about the different ways of filming a short, simple scene.
In our second camera lesson we got to grips with all the equipment. We learnt about the different ways of filming a short, simple scene.
We started learning about all the different angles to use when filming, including over shoulder views, two shots side views. We were shown the 180° Rule. The 180° Rules is a basic guild line that is used . The rule is used a lot when framing two or more characters in the same shot, for example the camera can go from the shoulder view of one character to the other characters shoulder and still be within the 180° Rule guild line.
The 180° Rule Gives can give the audience a perspective of both people in a back and forth conversation,
By showing the audience a conversation with both people in the shot facing each other, filmed from the side, they can see the background image and they adjust to the setting. By breaking the 180° Rule the audience can get confused when view the conversation with a different back ground because the audience is on the other side of them and the rearrangement of people
Another great example of the 180° rule is in televised football. If the audience is facing the field with the home team on one side and the opposition on the other, by keeping the camera facing one side of the pitch and the two opposite end the audience can depict what’s happening on the field from different angles. If you start to film from the other side of the pitch the audience will get confused because the two sides have switched sides. This is a perfect example why the 180° is so important.

Camera Lesson One.
We were shown how to attach the camera onto the tripod and the battery to the camera. the tripods we were using were very professional, we were shown how to get a balanced angle by using the spirit bubble of the tri-pod.
We were taught how to adjust the white balance to the surrounding so the colour in the picture becomes better quality, more life like. by showing the camera white, the camera can gauge every other colour from it. you can just use a piece of paper or the white balance.
We were also shown the basics of zooming, focusing, shutter speed and the level of exposure. For the focusing tutorial we were shown how to get the focus point of the shot by zooming up into the point were you would like the focus to be, focus on it and then zoom out. The cameras we had were good to work with, there were very complicated but they seemed very professional.
this is an image of the tri-pod we were using. It's very professional, very stable, smooth and efficient turning. i was also very easy to use and to connect the camera to it.
Introduction
Ivo Beckett,
My name is Ivo Beckett I am currently studying three subjects one of which is media studies. I chose media studies becuase I am very interested in the film industry and possibly looking at it as a future career path. I have looked at the films posted on youtube by the Hurtwood media department and after watching the past students opening title, thriller sequences it inspired me to study this course.
