The Camera work in our thriller is much
more effective in our thriller than our prelim. When we shot our
thriller we were much more experienced using the camera, e.g
focusing, action of the shots and cutting, camera placement, freehand
& and tripod movement and in angles of the shot. Some of the
clips in our prelim I think are well shot, for example the extreme
closeup, birds eye view shot of the glass being filled up from the
bottle I think works well with the shots around it and is quite a
professional shot that we used. Since the prelim we have had much
more practice session and lessons with the camera.
The Mise en Scene is so much more
professional in our thriller than our prelim, in our prelim our
location was chosen for us by the media staff. We had to film in the
media editing sweep. Although our prelim was more of a practice task
and practice session with the camera and being able to work together
as a group. The setting with the stye of film we had chosen did not
match at all. We chose a western style to work with the cowboy hats
we filmed with and the whiskey bottle and the space we filmed in had
high tech computers in the background which did not match the scene
one bit.
In our thriller we had been preparing
are props list for a couple of weeks and the location set. So it was
so much more organised than the prelim. In our thriller we chose
pea-slake house to be our mental institute. The location and the
props and clothing sets the scene for the audience to believe that it
real. The corridors in peas-lake were very convincing and the matt in
the scrubs pushing a dead patient on a stretcher with a white sheet
over him, which symbolises death to the audience.
In our thriller we managed to hire out
a van which added to the realism of our thriller, it also gave a
change of scenery. Everything we used which added to the realism and
meaning of the Mise-en- Scene, we had planned and organised for a
couple of weeks,
the editing in our thriller is much
more professional than our prelim. There was much more to editing in
our thriller than in the prelim but we did have longer to edit on our
thriller. We had learnt a lot form the prelim and the editing
process, for some of us the prelim editing was the first final cut
editing we had done, although I have the software, I personally feel
that I have learnt so much and come a long way scene the beginning of
the year. The editing in our prelim was more of a practice and
learning stepping stone onto our thriller so its no surprise that
the editing in our thriller is much better. I used a lot of
transitions and video and audio filters which I would have never of
thought to use in the prelim. I also used some FX in the thriller,
for example the gun shot flashes at the end, we created this using a
special FX software which is part of Final cut studio.
I had gotten a better grip on sound and
there is a scene in our thriller when its dark whilst the engine is
running and the sound of the window winding down comes in, I added
that in from another clip and then muffled the sound using a low pass
audio filter. I would have never of thought to use that in the
prelim. There is also another scene when I used this effects, when
matt is pushing the trolly and the camera switches to a shot of matt
through the window of a door, to get that muffled sound, I used the
same effect. We filming our thriller the sound was much better
quality than our prelim because we used a boom sound stick to grasp
the very finely detailed moments in our thriller. We didn’t have
this equipment when filming our prelim. I have also added some sound
FX in from soundtrack Pro, Which is part of the logic studio package
and altered the sound slightly using filters. e.g the gun shots at
the
The reason why our thriller was a
better success and production was because of the organisation and
planning put behind it. For the prelim we only really planed a couple
of days before we shot it and we didn’t have such a wide range of
choice for the setting and the script as it was chosen for us.I felt
like we were in control of the thriller a lot more than in he prelim.
When we were shooting our thriller it was really great to see our
ideas forming although we had to cut down our thriller a lot to be
more realistic in the short space of tie we had. I can really see now
why we do these blogs to prepare for the day. Looking back on the
shoot day I felt that we could have gotten a lot more shots in and
extra shots because I found when editing that some of the shots don’t
blend in well together but with a lot of editing I have managed to
resolve the problem.
I really enjoy working as a team,
looking back on the prelim I found it quite stressful everyone
arguing for there one ideas to form. Sure its hard getting everyone
to agree with everyone In your group but then again if you all
combine your ideas then you have formed the best of each one of your
ideas into one, and it pleases the audience a lot more because there
is a larger range of ideas forming for different members of the
audience to like. The thriller would be so much harder to organise
and shoot all by yourself. In a team you can work together and get
different sections of the organisation and planning done.
